Ohio Domestic Relations Law for Litigants Off the Chart

November 10 - 11, 2008, Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico;

The Academy of Continuing Legal Education presents our customary November seminar in Mexico, November 10 and 11, Monday and Tuesday, Monday being the observance of Veterans Day in Ohio when most Ohio courts are closedi. Classes totaling 14.5 hours of CLE credit will be presented, including "The Perfect Domestic Relations Trial", presented by Hon. Christopher J. Geer, Judge of the Franklin County Domestic Relations Court; "Calculating Child Support for Incomes Above Chart Maximum", "Determining Spousal Support", and "Alternative Dispute Resolution", presented by Diane Palos, Magistrate of the Cuyahoga County Domestic Relations Court, Also included are one hour each of Ethics and Professionalism, presented by Judge Kenneth R. Spanagel, who was a member of the Committee on Rules of Professional Conduct. There will be an optional substance abuse video at no additional charge. The seminar General Outline is available here. It is anticipated that the Office of CLE will certify the seminar for fourteen and one-half hours, including one hour each of Ethics and Professionalism, and one-half hour of substance abuse.

The seminar location is the Iberostar Tucan Resort, on the Caribbean coast of Mexico, in the State of Quintana Roo near the city of Playa del Carmen. Information on the Iberostar Tucan Resort is available online here.

Persons attending the seminar are encouraged to make independent travel arrangements early if you can. YOU MUST HAVE A VALID CURRENT PASSPORT TO RE-ENTER THE UNITED STATES FROM MEXICO. As of May Day, the Academy has seen the price for a proposed travel package increase, as airlines are understandably reluctant to commit to prices six months in advance with future fuel prices unknown and the value of the dollar declining. The Academy can, until June 1, book the following packages of round trip air travel and eight-day, seven-night all-inclusive hotel accomodations at the Iberostar, not including the cost of CLE itemized separately below, for $1600.00 per person double occupancy for a Thursday to Thursday trip from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport only, or $1,850.00 ppdo for a Saturday to Saturday trip departing froom Cleveland or Columbus, and a single supplement of $350.00 in either case, but we cannot guarantee that price after June 1, 2008.

It is probably cheaper if you do the work yourself, so attendees may wish to secure travel arrangements independently to avoid inconveniences due to further currency fluctuation. The Academy encourages attendees to make independent travel arrangements, but make certain to be booked into the Iberostar Tucan Playacar or Iberostar Quetzal Playacar at least for November 9, 10, and 11, because the resort charges a "day-pass" admission to enter the resort grounds for persons not booked into the hotel. The Academy brings to your attention that travel packages out of Detroit are less expensive than Cleveland or Columbus, if that is a convenient departure point. If you want the Academy to secure your travel package, please provide the names of each person traveling, AS THEY APPEAR ON THE PASSPORT, along with your payment.

Price for the fourteen and one-half hours of CLE credit is $490.00, being $35.00 per CLE credit hour with the optional SA free. A reduced rate of $420.00, being $30.00 per CLE credit hour, is available for members of the Academy.

No provision is available for registration for less than the full 14.5-hour block. Attendance will be monitored in compliance with the rules provided by the Ohio Supreme Court. For additional information on registration, email AcademyofCLE@aol.com.
