The Academy presented "Ohio Election Law 2010.2 - Campaign Activities and Finance," September 14 at the Richfield Conference Center. Topics were "2010 Statutory and Judicial Changes to Campaing Finance"; "Election Day Polling Place and Early Voting Issues" including Secretary of State directives and advisories; "Ohio Elections Commission Jurisdiction and Procedure," and "Campaign Finance Reporting for Candidates, Campaign Committees, and Issue Campaigns," and Substance Abuse. Six and one-half hours of CLE credit were approved.

Topics were "The Partisan Primary Election Process"; "Ohio Secretary of State Update" including Secretary of State directives and advisories; "Court Decisions Affecting Ohio Election Law," discussing Citizens United v. FEC, and 2009 consent entries in League of Women Voters v. Blackwell and O'Brien v. Brunner, "Professionalism: Legal Counsel's Professional Relations with State and County Elections Officials,""Ethics for Attorneys as Candidates and as Elections Counsel," and Substance Abuse. Six and one-half hours of CLE credit were approved.
December, 2009 - Ohio Election Law – Preparing for the 2010 Primary
The Academy presented "Ohio Election Law - Preparing for the 2010 Primary," December 9 at the Richfield Conference Center. Topics were "The Partisan Primary Election Process"; "Ohio Secretary of State Update" including Secretary of State directives and advisories issued since the Academy's March, 2009, Election Law program; "Federal Litigation Affecting Ohio Election Law," discussing 2009 consent entries in League of Women Voters v. Blackwell and O'Brien v. Brunner, "Professionalism: Attorney-Client Relations with County Government Agencies,""Ethics: Disciplinary Issues Arising from Elections and Public Office," and Substance Abuse. Six and one-half hours of CLE credit were approved. The "Partisan Primary," "Secretary of State Update," and "Federal Litigation" sections were additionally approved by the Ohio State Bar Association for 4.0 credit toward the Specialization in Administrative Agency Law.
October, 2009 – Ohio Foreclosure Law
The Academy presented "Ohio Foreclosure Law Update 2009.2," October 15 at the Richfield Conference Center at the Quality Inn Richfield, in Summit County. Topics were "Bankruptcy Court Practice in Foreclosures," presented by Patricia Kovace, Esq., former United States Bankruptcy Trustee from the Northern District of Ohio, Western Division; "Real Estate Title Issues in Foreclosure and Sheriff Sales," presented by Edward Horejs, vice president and regional counsel for Chicago Title; "Ethics for Debt Collectors and Debt Avoiders" and "Professionalism: Foreclosure Impact on Non-Parties" discussing recent federal legislation on notification of tenants of foreclosing properties, both presented by Larry Rothenberg, Esq., managing partner of the foreclosure section of the Cleveland office of Weltman Weinberg & Reis. and Substance Abuse. Six oand one-half hours of CLE credit were approved. The "Bankruptcy," and "Real Estate Title" sections were additionally approved by the Ohio State Bar Association for 2.5 credit toward the Specialization in Residential Real Estate Law.
March, 2009 – Ohio Election Law
The Academy presented "Ohio Election Law 2009," March 10 at the Baymont Inn Cambridge, in Guernsey County. Topics were "Ohio Elections Commission Jurisdiction and Procedures," presented by Philip Richter, Esq., executive director of the Ohio Elections Commission; "Ohio Secretary of State Update" including directives and advisories issued since the Academy's October, 2008, Election Law program, presented by Brian Shinn, Esq., elections counsel of the Ohio Secretary of State; "County Board of Elections Procedures," presented by Linette M. Stratford, Esq. chief assistant prosecuting attorney of Mahoning County; "Professionalism: Attorney-Client Relations with County Government Agencies," presented by Bryan Felmet, Esq., member of the Oho Elections Commission and former Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney; and "Ethics: Disciplinary Issues Arising from Elections and Public Office" presented by Judge Harry W. White of Belmont County Court, and Substance Abuse. Six and one-half hours of CLE credit were approved.
February, 2009 – Ohio Foreclosure Law
The Academy presented "Ohio Foreclosure Law Update," February 9 at the Richfield Conference Center in Summit County. Topics were "Fundamental Foreclosure Law Update" to include recent Ohio legislation and case law developments, presented by Magistrate Timothy Gauntner of the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas; "Lender Initiatives in Foreclosure Resolutions" and "Ethics for Debt Collectors and Debt Avoiders," both presented by Frank Veneziano, Esq., managing partner of the Cincinnati office of Weltman, Weinberg & Reis; "Defense of Foreclosure In the Court of Common Pleas" and "Professionalism: Disclosure to the Foreclosure Client," both presented by Academy academic co-ordinator Christopher J. Mallin, and Substance Abuse. Six and one-half hours of CLE were approved.

October, 2008– Federal Foreclosure Prevention Act of 2008
The Academy presented a one-day program on the topic “Foreclosure Law: Implementing the Federal Foreclosure Prevention Act of 2008,“ at the Richfield Conference Center, in Summit County.

Seminar topics include fundamental foreclosure law; an analysis of the Federal Foreclosure Prevention Act of 2008 and guidelines for distribution of four billion dollars to local governments for foreclosure response programs; State of Ohio programs to assist foreclosure-impacted Ohioans directly and through local government programs; and a panel describing local court initiatives responding to foreclosure issues.

The panelists on the federal legislation were Douglas Harsany, of the Division of Community Development of the Ohio Department of Commerce; Douglas Garver, executive director of the Ohio Housing Finance Agency; and Dawn Larzolere, director of Legislative Affairs for the OHFA. Each of these panelists had testified before Congress and participated in the writing of the federal bill.

The panelists on Ohio and NGO programs for local governments were Michele Pearson, director of Community Education for the Ohio Treasurer, and formerly the County Treasurer and County Auditor of Marion County; and Frank Veneziano, Esq., managing partner of the Cincinnati office of Weltman, Weinberg, & Reis.

The panelists on Court initiatives were Judge Raymond Pianka of the Cleveland Municipal Housing Court, Magistrate Michelle Pena of the Lorain County Court of Common Pleas, and a representative of the Ottawa County Courtapproved.

September, 2008 – Domestic Relations in a Financially Challenging Environment
The Academy presented a two-day, 14.5 CLE, Domestic Relations Law seminar, on September 11 and 12, at the Nia Conference Center at the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky.

The speakers were Magistrate Diane Palos, now Judge Diane Palos, of the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas, Division of Domestic Relations; John Demer, Esq., adjunct professor of law, Case Western Reserve University; Joel Sacco, Esq., mediator and former magistrate of Cuyahoga County Division of Domestic Relations, and representatives of the Center for Principled Family Advocacy. Extensive coverage of support calculation and post-decree enforcement included the Ohio legislation effective July 21, 2008, concerning cash medical payments in the calculation of support. Also included were one hour each of Ethics and Professionalism and one-half hour of Substance Abuse.

August, 2008 – Law of Election Day Activities
The Academy presented two one-day programs on the topic Ohio Law of Election Day Activities, August 12, at the Ralph Regula Conference Center at the North East Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy (NEOUCOM), in Portage County, and August 13, 2008, at the Red Rock Inn, in Bedford Heights, Cuyahoga County.

Speakers were executive staff of the Portage County Board of Elections (Aug 12) and executive staff of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections (Aug 13); and Brian Shinn, Esq., and Brian Green, Esq., elections counsel of the Ohio Secretary of State.

Topics included voter residency and identification requirements, provisional ballot procedures, paper ballot options, conduct in the polling place, media access, observer rights and responsibilities, contingency planning, the Secretary of State Code of Ethics for Election Officials, and Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline jurisdiction in election issues, with issues specific to touch-screen voting machines in Portage County, and with issues specific to precinct-based optical scan equipment in Cuyahoga County. Six and one-half hours of CLE credit were approved, including one hour each of Ethics and Professionalism and one-half hour Substance Abuse.

May, 2008 – Ohio Election Law
The Academy presented a two-day program on the topic Ohio Election Law, May 8 and 9, 2008, at the Richfield Conference Center in Summit Co

Speakers included Richard Coglianese, Esq., chief assistant Ohio Attorney General in the Constitutional Law section; Denise Smith, Esq., chief of the civil division of the Portage County Prosecutor; Magistrate Joel Sacco, who was appointed special magistrate to hear the 2007 election contest case Squire v Geer and Franklin County Board of Elections, Philip Richter, Esq., executive director of the Ohio Elections Commission; and Brian Shinn, Esq., and Brian Green, Esq., elections counsel of the Ohio Secretary of State.

Seminar topics include Federal legislation and litigation including NVRA and HAVA, election contests, mandamus and prohibition, voter residency and identification requirements, candidate petitions and financial reporting, Ohio Elections Commission jurisdiction and procedures, criminal prosecutions of election law violations, and Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline jurisdiction in election issues. Fourteen and one-half hours of CLE credit were approved, including one hour each of Ethics and Professionalism and one-half hour Substance Abuse.

April, 2008 – Ohio Foreclosure Law
The Academy presented a two-day program on the topic Ohio Foreclosure Law, April 17 and 18, 2008, at the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky. Ohio Accountancy CPE credits were additionally available for attending this program.

Speakers included Timothy M. Gauntner, Esq., foreclosure magistrate of the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas; Mark N. Wiseman, Esq., director of the Cuyahoga County Treasurer's Foreclosure Intervention Program; James P. Boyle, Esq., assistant Ohio Attorney General, Consumer Protection Division, predatory lending enforcement; Judge Arlene Singer of the Sixth District Court of Appeals; and attorneys experienced in private practice in defense of foreclosure, bankruptcy, real estate title, and taxation.

This comprehensive program was designed for Common Pleas magistrates who may face an increasing caseload in this area; attorneys involved in mortgage mediation programs who may benefit from knowledge of the possible tax effects, title considerations, and bankruptcy aspects related to the foreclosure process; county attorneys and government officials who may be involved in intervention programs or criminal prosecutions of predatory lenders; non-profit organizations who need some specialization in this area; and general practitioners who may wish to develop additional expertise. Fourteen and one-half hours of attorney CLE credit were approved, including one hour each of Ethics and Professionalism and one-half hour of Substance Abuse video, as well as fourteen hours of Ohio Accountancy CPE.

September, 2007 – Ohio Election Law
The Academy of Continuing Legal Education presented a two-day program on the topic Ohio Election Law, September 27 and 28, 2007, at the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, Ohio. This was the first CLE program focused on Ohio Election Law offered by any organization since the inception of the Ohio CLE requirement.

Seminar speakers included Philip Richter, Esq., executive director of the Ohio Elections Commission; Timothy Burke, Esq., chair of the Hamilton County Board of Elections; Dennis Zavinsky, Esq. member of the Portage County Board of Elections, David Duffey, operations director of the Ohio Democratic Party; Judge Arlene Singer of the Sixth District Court of Appeals; Commissioner Peter Lawson Jones, Esq., from Cuyahoga County; and Brian Green, Esq., and Erick Gale, Esq., elections counsel of the Ohio Secretary of State.

Seminar topics included candidate petitions and financial reporting, Ohio Elections Commission jurisdiction and procedures, criminal prosecutions of election law violations, Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline jurisdiction in election issues, voter challenges, contests, and recounts; statutory county party organization, and the 2008 Presidential Delegate Selection Plan. Fourteone hour each of Ethics and Professionalism.
